Life is Good
That brings me to another point. I'm going to miss Ashleigh so much!!!!! I'm so happy that she's going on a mission and i just know that she will love it so much but I'm selfish and I want her to stay just so I can talk to her everyday, or when I freak out and need my best friend to talk to. Noone else really understands the weird, crazy thoughts that run through my head that I just have to tell someone else. I'll live somehow. I did manage to survive life somehow for 18 years before I met her. And I guess letter writing will suffice.
Since this is a life is good post I guess I might as well make a list of things in my life that make me happy.
- The gospel
- Ashleigh
- My other friends
- My family
- My boyfriend
- Puppies
- Shoes
- Maybe finally deciding on a major
- Flowers
- Kisses from Tory
- Hugs
- Being healthy and free of sickness
- and lots of other things

Christmas Lights
Earlier today I was throwing a football with Sandra and she got tired and left me outside. I wasn't ready to go inside so I was laying in the hammock deciding what I wanted to do. It would take too long to find a basketball to shoot some hoops and then I realized that it was six days into the new year and our Christmas lights were still up. I go into the garage and get out the ladder and start with the lights on the side of the house and after I was done with those it was time to get on the roof to get the ones on the front because you can't reach those from the ladder. So I positioned the ladder near the porch where it makes a corner and it's the easiest to get on right there.
As soon as I was on the house I could tell that the roof did not look this steep from the ground. I was able to make it from the top and I was fine just sitting there overlooking the neighborhood. I really like being able to look around from up there because you can just see so much more. Then I realized that to actually get to lights off I to venture down the roof and there is just not as much to hold onto. I set out to take the lights down so I was going to do it. I just sat there for a little while trying to prepare myself but I could tell waiting wasn't going to help as my heart rate increased so I just went after it. I went down the one side and made it without dieing so I was feeling good. I sat there on top and enjoyed myself a little more. After I conquered the other side I was done. I got off the roof and decided that my dad could tackle the garage side of the house because that side is a lot worse.
I think the incline just freaked me out. I haven't been home around the time that we put up and took down the lights for the last couple of years. But I do remember always being excited about getting on the roof. When I was little I would actually climb up a tree to get on the roof at our house back in California to just get away. I could could actually hide up there for hours without anyone finding me. Then again the incline on that roof was next to nothing. I also loved to help put up the lights at my Grandparents house but the roof at that house is flat. The scary put about getting up there was you got on there from the patio of the apartment above the garage and the wood was rotting really badly in some places. There was actually a piece of wood covering a hole in the wood. I've heard that the patio has actually been redone since the last time I was in California.
So I have decided that I am not afraid of heights but I definitely do not like steep inclines when I have nothing to hold onto.
I have also figured out a few options that I have for when I have a house of my own.
- My house will just have a flat roof.
- My future husband can just be in charge of putting up and taking down Christmas lights on the outside of the house.
- I could pay someone else, or they could just do it out of the kindness of their heart.
- Christmas will just not be celebrated at my house because you can't have Christmas without Christmas lights. And plus it can't be that hard to be a Scrooge.

Bob That Head
So I went Down to Lisa and Daniel's for Thanksgiving. We had a pretty good time down there and ate lots of food. I baked a pecan pie, two pumpkin pies, and was in charge of the mashed potatoes for the occasion. And the most surprising thing of all was that we actually ate by noon. We had to do that because Joe had to drive back to Georgetown and go to work.
On Friday I participated in black Friday and bought myself a laptop. I am absolutely in love with it! I even got excited about my speaking assignment in church in 2 weeks because that just gives me an excuse to use my computer and the printer that came with it.
And on Saturday night we stayed for dinner and David was so cute. he was just so tired that he just fell asleep in his highchair. Now I have heard from other people that their kids did this all the time when they were little but this is not the case with Lisa's kids So I just had to capture the moment. He was falling asleep as he was drinking his bottle and woke up to eat a little more and then started to fall asleep with his bottle and then woke up breifly to put his bottle in the cup holder and then he was out for good. He just slept through getting cleaned up, his diaper changed, and his pj's on.

Children, Housework, and Marriage
So I've been kidnapped by Lisa and Daniel and I think I might finally make it back on Thursday. I've been having fun playing with the kids and helping Lisa with her projects and cooking and cleaning. Today I worked on sewing some pj pants for Cali and we baked cookies. My domestic future just seems to be getting brighter and brighter. I don't know why but the word domestic just rubs me the wrong way. Makes me think of a 50's housewife who looks perfect all the time and always has her house and kids in order. Life is disordered and nobody is expected to be perfect.
It is really weird though because I used to be totally turned off by the idea of marriage and being expected to pop out babies asap. Especially when I was at BYU and I would see this young girl having kids while they are still in school. One day I was sitting in class and just wondering what the possibilty was of some young girl's water breaking on the exact chair that I am sitting in. Chills go down my spine just thinking about it. And just hearing about all these girls my age getting married makes me sick. I just feel that there are a good number of KIDS my age are just not ready for marriage and need to grow up. I will admit that the amount it does now is a whole lot less than it used to be. I've actually warmed up to the idea quite a bit.
What weirds me out is the fact that I'm getting to the point that I can imagine myself getting married and having a family of my own. I remember those lessons in young womens on marriage and thinking who really cares, I'll get married someday but that's a long ways off. Now it's probably only a couple years off and I'm beginning to think that I'm ok with that. But unlike my friend John thinks, I will not be married by the time he gets off his mission.
I am firmly under the belief that people need to go into marriage knowing who they are and who they are marrying. Marriage is complicated and confusing enough that you need to try to be as truthful as possible because how disappointed would you be to think you're marrying one person and finding out they are completely different than what you believed them to be. It's really just in your best interest to be honest with yourself and others. Which brings me to another point, I don't believe in short courtships either. I can't imagine planning on spending eternity with someone I've only know for a couple weeks. I like to idea of knowing someone for at least a year before getting married because I know having just friendships it takes a while to get to know who people really are.
I think I have learned a few lessons from examples in my life to have some sort of idea what to expect and what I want:
- Things won't turn out the way I plan.
- It takes alot of time and effort from both people to make it work.
- There will definately be hard times, but when things get hard don't throw the towel in too quickly because most problems can be worked through.
- You married your spouse because you love them and they make you happy. Marriage is not meant to make you miserable, and no one deserves to be miserable.
- Work hard to make sure you never fall out of love.
- Know who you're marrying before hand.
- Communicate.
I've never been married so I guess you can't really consider me a good source for advice, but I hope that I have learned something in my short 20 years on this earth. But I have decided that I need to live my life more before I seriously start thinking about getting married because I need to have stories to tell besides just being able to talk about my kids because those are to only people I interact with. I really need to just hang out with people my own age when I get back to Georgetown, whenever that might be.

Facial Hair

I got back to Georgetown Tuesday night and my dad, Joe and Sandra came to pick me up. I walk out of the airport and when the car pulls up out comes my father with a full beard. It was, and still is awful! I told him he looks like a terrorist, because he does with that beard. I was finally able to convince him to shave off his ugly mustache after he had it for over thirty years, and now he has this monstrosity.
To be honest I really don't understand what it is with guys and facial hair. I guess it's because I'm a woman. But as a woman, I hate it! I cannot think of any women that like facial hair. I guess I know a few but that's only a handful and they are the exception to most women I would think. I mean I can understand the thing teenage boys have with facial hair because it's like hey I can grow a beard and you can't. One would think that men would grow out of that, but I guess men are really just adolescents at heart.
It's weird because I feel like younger men grow facial hair to look older and older men grow it to look younger. That doesn't make since because the same means cannot reach two opposing ends. I think my dad is trying to look younger or something but it just makes him look older. Especially since most of it is white. Granted I don't understand the man in the first place, so who knows. For all I know he's just trying to save money on shaving cream and razors. I actually wouldn't put that past him.
Well lets get off my dad and get back to the real issue. Facial Hair. Now just because I don't want to go on forever I will only cover the three general categories of facial hair.
Beard: Some of the things I associate with beards are homeless people and terrorists. Why would you want to be associated with either one of these groups. Also who knows all the things that could get stuck in there. It looks like a birds nest, which would probably be a better use for it anyway. Someone should set up a Locks of Love for birds.
Mustaches: They creep me out. I associate mustaches with sexual predators and just creeps in general. I instinctively shy away from men with mustaches, especially at night.
Goatees: Alright, so I can't really think any of negative connotations to go along with beards, but they just make me laugh. They look silly. It's sometimes just hard for me to take a man seriously when he has a goatee.
So I will concede that, like with every rule, there are exceptions with this one. But I should warn you, you think you're an exception to the rule, but you're probably not. It's just wishful thinking. But don't try to change that the next time you see a shooting star, or your birthday rolls around because it would just be a waste of a perfectly good wish.

Going Home Soon.
So things have been a little busy these past few weeks. Soon after the Antelope Hunt, the 25th I believe, I went into Elk camp for like a week and a half. That was lots of fun. I spent most of the time as the babysitter for Stuart because it's kinda hard to take a seven year old when you leave camp at five in the morning. So I spent most of my days in camp lying around playing with Stuart. He discovered that I am a fun person to wrestle with and has ceased ever since. I'll be sitting on the couch and he will just come attack me. In addition I would help with cooking and staking out the horses and fetching water from the creek. One day Ashleigh and I decided to go for a ride to see if we could go find Spike Camp(a hunting camp owned by Ashleighs boss). We stumble upon a trail and decide to go right. We stumble upon a four point bull elk and Ashleigh does not have her gun. Later we decided that she should of had it anyways because we were in bear country. Well we keep going and we still can't find Spike camp so we decide to just go back to camp before it gets dark. We think that i might be easier to follow the trail we found to see if it's easier than the way we came. We came around a corner and I was like "Ashleigh there's a corral! I think it's Spike camp." Sure enough we go down there and tie up Texas and the Brute and find Barry. We talked to him for a bit and he fed us and told us if we came back the next day he would have cake for us. We got back to elk camp just in time to miss both the dark and the rain. And it also rained all the next day so we didn't get any cake.
We came out on the fifth and immediately had to start preparing for the Good Morning America people that were coming over on Thursday and Jim's mission farewell which was the next Sunday. You can find the clip of the Allans on the ABCNews website under Wyoming for the 50 States 50 Issues thing. And just so you know that clip of the reporter outside has Ashleigh's horse sugar in the background and had to be done like seventeen times because he had a hair sticking up. We spent lots of time cleaning and baking that week. Ashleigh and I ended up baking for than four hundred cookies for the farewell. Not as many people were able to make it up to the house as planned though because of the snow from Thursday, but there was still a good turn out. Collin was there and that was fun. As he was leaving I went up to him and asked, "so you're going to leave without saying goodbye to me?" We claimed that he did but I could stand for it because I hadn't received a hug. I said, "how are we going to further our relationship if he doesn't even hug me." I think he's warmed up to me and isn't as embrassed as he was at first.
So the family went down and took Jim into the MTC and Wednesday the 15th. I stayed up here so I could feed the animals and they were going down for less than a day in a cramped truck cab. Since then I've just been trying to spend time with Ashleigh. This week was demo week at the center for the arts so we went to a bunch of dance classes this week. We are going out tonight for dinner and a movie for our last night in town together. And yes, we are going to see High School Musical 3. I'm expecting to to be a fabulous film.
Well next time I write on here I'll most likely be back in Texas so have fun until then.
